I quite liked "Leviathan" and recently read it for the second time since I bought it last October. The background for the story includes a race of people who successfully resisted the same sort of temptation that led to Adam and Eve's eviction from the Garden of Eden. Thus one of the main characters of the book is a little boy who seems too good to be true. He is quite likeable anyhow, as is the grizzled, world-weary non-commissioned naval officer who spends much of the story as the child's protector.FYI: Albert Michaels is among my acquaintances. He works in the same building I do, albeit on a different shift and in a different department. The author, a U. S. Navy veteran, evidently put his service experiences to work to boost the novel's realism. I can recommend the book to anyone who enjoys military science fiction or suspense novels.

I could not put this book down. It was a riveting story that completely captured my attention. Through no fault of the authors, the reading was trying at times due to the fact that sometimes the end-of-the-book starred review page would pop up. Also, some pages did not go all the way to the bottom until I forwarded one page and then backed up to that page again. Despite these irritations I really, really enjoyed this book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Going to be looking for more by this author. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Not too complicated and still interesting. Lots of touching parts and plenty of action.
Leviathan is an exciting page turning science fiction adventure novel. It is set on a planet that has been colonized by humans who are now at war. The story takes primarily aboard a navy ship called Leviathan. The plot revolves around the five-year-old son of a diplomat who has been targeted by a cyborg assassin. The child takes refuge on the ship, and is assigned a crew member to protect him from the assassin who also came aboard. Leviathan contains one page turning scene after another. It is a fun book if you enjoy action. If you are looking for lots of science in your science fiction, this is a little light.
It was refreshing to read a book where faith and spiritual practice are an integral part of the characters. Too much of popular entertainment ignores this, seeming to think it does not exist to the extent it does among Americans.
This is the type of story that I could envision adapted to the screen. I don't have those type of connections, but I sure hope this gets wider attention, and gets optioned by someone in Hollywood.
The on-board setting was very realistically described. One drawback was that some times naval lingo and abbreviations were used, and not explained by the author. These would be familiar to any who had served in the navy, but not necessarily to those of us who have not served.
A second drawback was that explanatory notes for some things, like translations of the alien language, were included at the end of the novel. I have the first generation kindle, so to go to the back of the book meant typing in the location numbers and pressing "go to location", then having to repeat that process to get back to where I left off.
There were a few loose ends, and a teaser epilogue. I hope the sequels become available. This was a good book and I rate it at 4 big stars.

Can definitely see a comparison between this and the 'Sci-fi' stories written by C.S. Lewis.
Very competent author, will definitely be checking out some of his other books.
